Speaking at Denver City Council's Public Forum
On July 23, 2018, I spoke at the Public Forum at Denver City Council. I had three minutes to speak at the podium in front of city council. I was first on the list. After arriving just 10 minutes before the forum began, my boys and I were soaked. There had been a torrential downpour just minutes before, and I had been driving frantically through downtown Denver during rush hour, trying to make it on time. When I arrived, I was greeted there by the CBS This Morning show (a very big deal!), who was preparing for a piece that Lemonade Stand Mama would be featured on the following morning. When they called me up to speak, my three minutes were up before I had completely finished. Oh well, I had gotten my main points in. And I am proud that my two oldest boys, ages 7 and 4, saw their mom speak in a government public forum, standing up for them.
But the highlight of the meeting was afterwards, when a CityCouncilman approached me and said that he had drafted an ordinance to make kids lemonade stands in Denver legal! Yes! While it is not official yet, they are well on their way. He was such a nice older man, who said he wanted to make lemonade stands legal for his grandkids. Thank you so much!
